Our Uncompromising Breeding Standards

At Crown Catahoulas, planned litters are never a result of chance. We view every breeding pairing as a dedicated effort to preserve and enhance the historic Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dog.

To ensure that every puppy born into our care inherits the strength, intelligence, and stability the breed is known for, our adult breeding stock undergoes a rigorous multi-phase evaluation before being cleared for reproduction:

  • Comprehensive Genetic Health Screening: Complete DNA panel testing through Embark and Wisdom Panel to ensure zero risk of genetic conditions such as Collie Eye Anomaly (CEA), Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA), and Hyperuricosuria (HUU).

  • OFA Orthopedic Evaluations: Hip and elbow clearances (OFA / PennHIP) to guarantee sound joint structure and prevent dysplasia.

  • BAER Hearing Assessment: Brainstem Auditory Evoked Response (BAER) testing to confirm full, normal hearing across all merle and white-factored coats.

  • Temperament & Drive Testing: Evaluating mental stability, confidence around children, working drive, and natural protection instincts.
